A beautiful hike

Saturday morning, Dave, Melissa, Marinus, Brian and I hiked up Mount Cheam. Only Brian and Dave had done it before. We left early - 5:30 to beat the Saturday rush. We started hiking just after 7 and had the mountain completely to ourselves as we were the first ones out. It was a beautiful day for hiking. The clouds cleared off the mountain top by the time we arrived around 9:30. It was bitterly cold and windy at the top, but we stuck it out for awhile and enjoyed the view with our 'lunch'.
Looking back where we've come from...not that long before we'd crossed that little bridge!
The view of Doghead / Lady's Peak up close :) The clouds movement was amazingly beautiful! The pictures don't do it justice! The view :) - well worth the energy expended. Although we couldn't see past Abbotsford, clouds were not a problem. On top of the world! We noticed how small we were in the vastness of God's creation.

As the boys looked for ptarmigan, we enjoyed our hike down, taking pictures and checking out the flowers. On the way down we counted the people we passed...final count for the day - 117 people (hiking - not including those still driving up), 2 dogs, 2 bears, and a chipmunk!

My favorite picture of the day - that's Brian and Dave :)

After we drove down again, the mountain was completely clouded over for the rest of the day. It pays to be early! Enjoy your week!

Camping...

Last week we had our church family camp at Maple Bay and had another great time :) It rained HARD on Thursday, but we stuck it out for a few hours, then headed to the wave pool to continue our adventures. A few pictures of our time at the beautiful lake...

Fishing was a hit...both on the dock,
and in the water!

Some watched,
(notice Chelsie fitting right in ;) )
while others took pictures of the first catch of the day.
On Wednesday, it was nice enough to swim.

and we all enjoyed the sunshine - this is the youngest camper...isn't he cute?Thursday was soggy, but still delightful for awhile...
Camping is a fun time to play...
with a very good friend Mr. Adam,
and a new friend, James.

Friday afternoon we hiked Teapot Hill in the afternoon, getting Shelly to join us as she showed up for a visit :) Here we're relaxing afterward.

No camp is complete without some exploring...
and a lot of dirt!
Other than that, work around the house and yard is keeping us busy...next week we head back up to the lake for a small youth camp. Hopefully the weather is beautiful for that one. Enjoy your week!

Family Monday

Happy Birthday to my Mom today!

On Monday (BC Day), we spent a day together as a little family. We took our bikes out to Vancouver, biked the seawall a couple of times and watched some of the World Police and Fire Games. It was a lovely day :) Enjoy the pictures!

Ready to go, Mom!
The view from the Seawall of the area around Canada Place.A break for some playground time...this slide was perfect for Chelsie!
And you can't go to Vancouver without dipping your feet in the ocean!

Inspecting a shell...

The new Vancouver Convention Centre...a neat building! Our parking time was up, so we didn't go inside.
The same building from across the water
WPFG Volleyball - this game was California Law Enforcement versus South Africa Peace Keepers...we also watched 2 other South African teams playing - they were GOOD!
Soccer...this was neat - Surrey Fire Department against Vancouver Police :) 3-0 for Surrey (red)! And we watched pieces of several different hockey games...this was NYFD playing the North Shore Fire Dept...All of the New York players were the 'Bravest'. :) Chelsie even had a new word - "ho-ckey"! How Canadian is that?!

Chelsie was thrilled with this poster!
