of tractors, kids, and curls

A visit to the farm show was in order, as Daddy spent three days there last week learning more about berries.  Even little girls enjoy 'riding' the tractors, trying out a skid steer, comparing yourself to a giant tire, and milking a 'cow'.  :)

"This is a BIG John Deere, Daddy!"
"See how long I am?  But this tire is even longer!"
Not only boys make driving sounds...this Kubota was driving all over the show!
And joining Chelsie was a great excuse for Daddy to check out some huge tractors and dream a little...
Looking small in a large John Deere skid steer :)
And noticing how huge this tractor tire actually is..."I'm higher than you, Daddy!"

And a highlight for many of the kids there was the petting zoo.  Several sheep including a 1-month old pair of lamb twins, some bunnies, llamas, chickens and several goats including this little one - only 1 week old, and SO cute!
This mama goat had no idea that her ears were in moral danger of being grabbed and pulled by Brynlie :)
Daddy holding 2 kids.  One was a little more wiggly than the other :)

And our visit to the show wasn't complete without milking this 'cow'...Chelsie gave it a good attempt, squeezed out a few drops, and earned herself an "I milked a cow today" sticker :)  Mommy got one too (for helping)!  She didn't have much to say about the milk coming out...but I have a feeling the wheels are still turning and processing that one!

From tractors to all things girly...
Saturday night we gave these curlers a first attempt...she was thrilled to put them in, thrilled by the idea of curls, thrilled to see them in the mirror...once she was in bed, there were big tears.  Not because they hurt to sleep in, but because one had fallen out!  After some reassurance that it was okay, and putting the curler back in, she went quickly to sleep...
Taking them out Sunday morning (minus the one which had fallen out again) gave us the cute Shirley Temple look, definitely to be repeated!
And a picture especially for Oma (Chelsie's great Oma)- she made this coat for Willetta 28ish years ago...it was worn by Willetta, me, Willena, Janelle, Jodene, and Breanne...and now a new generation :)  The fabric was taken from an old coat from one of Oma's sisters - talk about a piece of history!  Our beautiful little lady's been wearing it to church all winter :).

Advice from a (nearly) 6 month old

I'm almost 6 months now...and I think I'm pretty smart.  Mommy says I'm a cheerful little lady.
Anyway, here's my advice to you.
Enjoy your baths - even when you're in a sink like me, you have to soak it in!

Smile a lot - everyone seems to like it.

Show your family you love them - grins are one way to do this!
Take time to rest when you need to...keeping your head up can be hard work you know!
Have a wonderful day!
Love Brynlie

Snow day

I love snow.  How it falls quietly.  How it drifts.  How it looks when it's fresh.  How it feels.  How it covers our dirt yard and makes everything look beautiful.

The first good dump of snow this year was followed by a quick topping of rain.  We headed out earlier this morning to play for awhile, thankfully before the rain.  Brian went snowmobiling today with his employees, so it was just Chelsie and I.   Brynlie hung out inside in the exersaucer while we played.  The highlight for Chelsie was 'throwing snow' at each other :)  A few pictures of our fun :)

Greeting our snow lady friend with a kiss...when you don't have a carrot for a nose, you get creative :)

Check out this mischievous look...it was followed with "I'm going to throw snow at you, Mom!"

And she proceeded to gather some up...
 Track me down...
 Throw it at me...
And giggle with delight.  "Got you, Mom!"

As you can tell by her hat, the favour of snow thrown at her was returned gleefully :)
We finished our snow time off with some hot chocolate.

The question now is...do I want to go back out during naptime and clear some more of the driveway?!
If only I knew how to drive the Bobcat sitting so peacefully on the trailer on the driveway!

Skating to end 2010

We ended our year with a family skating trip with Jodene.  We don't go often - about once a year, and every time we hit the ice, we wonder why we don't take the time to go more often!  Chelsie's been skating before, but never on her own feet :)  She quite enjoyed the experience.  She also took a couple rides to give Auntie and Daddy's backs a well-deserved break!  Brynlie enjoyed her first skate, too :D  Enjoy the pictures.

 Growing in confidence :)

 Smiles for her ride :)

And with that, we wish you a happy New Year, blessed by our heavenly Father!
With love, L,B,C,B
